The Department of Printing and Media Engineering at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) organised an international conference on printing and media technology titled `Print Congress 2007' at Manipal from March 29 to 31.
Experts in the print, publishing and media industry participated in the conference. The objective was to bring together printers, manufacturers, professionals and students of print technology to discuss the developments that had taken place in the graphics industry in recent years.
“It was a wonderful experience at Manipal Institue of Printing Technology” says Bhargav Mistry who was invited to make presentation on the latest development in print technology. Bhargav happened to be the only one to make presentation on SCREEN PRINTING TECHNOLOGY . At the end of the presentation, says Bhargav, “I was surrounded by students for in depth one to one discussion. I even exhausted all my visiting cards as everybody wanted my contact details. It is clear that the potential of screen printing is not tapped properly and there is lack of awareness of this special technology. It is high time that Institutes like MIT encourage screen printing in a big way at the academic level itself, if not at industry level”. General Manager of Heidelberg (I) Ltd., Guenther Keppler said that about 10 years ago there was lot of talk of "paperless office". But now more paper was being used than before, he said, adding that he was optimistic about the future of the print media.
MIT founded in 1957 by the great visionary late Dr. T.M.A. Pai, has now become a constituent institute of MANIPAL University. |
