Double Congratulations to DMI for winning
at FESPA '07, BERLIN & ASPT, USA Youth Competition

India's first and only institute on advanced screen print education - DMI brings great pride to Indian printing industry by winning two prestigious international awards. First it was the Gold Medal in the FESPA Berlin'07 Youth category held in the first week of June this year. Following this, Dhirubhai Mistry Institute for Print Education, Research & Training (DMI) has just received yet another international award - the Best of Show award as well as first place in the 2006 ASPT Screen Printing Student Award competition for its entry entitled 'Berlin Gate' in the category of Paper Substrate - Four-Color Process in the Post-Secondary School Division. HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS.

It may be recalled that all the entries received for the FESPA Youth Competition were being automatically entered into the Academy of Screen printing Technology (ASPT) Student Competition which was judged and exhibited during the SGIA Convention and Exhibition, 24th 27th October 2007 in Orlando, Florida, USA.

The competition at FESPA Berlin'07 was open to schools, colleges or training centres where screenprinting is taught on a part-time or full-time basis and also to companies with apprentices training as individual students or in groups.

The SHEET SIZE was 500 x 700mm, with variations in the graphics and position of the "free element" within the sheet, also in the choice of the two additional colours and varnishes. DESIGN was supplied by FESPA.

The type of substrate by entries were paper, board, plastic, metal, textiles, ceramic etc. The type of inks used included: solvent, UV, water-based, matt, semi gloss or gloss (or a combination).

In principle, the jury was the same as the FESPA Awards Jury which had been selected from different countries to judge the Youth Competition as well as the 2007 "FESPA Awards Competition". Judging criteria was based on: Quality of colours, setting-up and register, accuracy of "colour matches" in comparison with the artwork supplied for the "compulsory design", Width of "overlapping", edge definition, thickness of inks, Quality of the printed dots, Quality and fineness of the printed lettering, Similarity and consistency of the 10 samples submitted, Those points will count for 80% of the total Aesthetic quality of the "graphic composition" of the whole poster including the proposed "surface coating".

As part of the award, DMI will receive a Best of Show and Award of Excellence plaque. DMI will also receive a plaque listing the winners of DMI. The cash prizes to be given to DMI and its students have been sponsored by US Screen Print and Inkjet Technology. The names of DMI students will be listed on ASPT Student Award web page, and appear in a story in an upcoming issue of the SGIA News publication.

In letter to DMI, Dawn M. Hohl, Member of the Academy of Screen Printing Technology, on behalf of ASPT, SGIA and US Screen Print and Inkjet Technology, congratulated DMI and its students and wished a successful future in the graphics industry.

It may be recalled that DMI had won highly commendable award in the FESPA competition last year as well.

And, DMI on its part, thanks FESPA, thanks SGIA, ASPT for the encouragement and support to DMI in the form of this award.
